Our heart acts like as a pumping station and blood pressure (BP) can be experience when blood exerts pressure against our blood vessels. Blood pressure rises with each heartbeat and falls when the heart relaxes between beats. It is a changing phenomenon and affected by various factors like activity, rest, exercise, temperature, cold, diet, emotional state, posture, medications etc. The scenario of India is not so upbeat where about 15-20% people are suffering from this lifestyle related disorder.
Causes of Blood Pressure
Unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyles are the chief causes of Blood Pressure today. Most of the food items that we consume – fast foods or items packed with preservatives and chemicals – create digestive problems in the body. Impaired digestion leads to accumulation of ama (toxins), which further lead to the high blood pressure. The food we eat is digested by our digestive fire (jatharagni) to produce nutrient plasma. This plasma nourishes all other dhatus (body tissues) and aids in the production of healthy blood, which circulates all over the body through various channels (srotas).
